Trading traditional for smart bulbs is an easy way to add a bit of technology to any room in your house and, if you have an Amazon Echo or Google Home, picking up a set of smart lights is an absolute must. But what smart bulbs should you buy? There are tons of great choices on the market, but a lot of them can get quite expensive. The company not only offers the typical smart bulb package, but also lights with built-in cameras that double as security devices and ones with speakers to work as a hybrid lighting and entertainment system. Those may strike you, as they did me, as over the top but the core of those products, and the company, is the smart bulb, and Sengled does it really well. Often, when talking about affordable tech products, the big question is what you get for your money, and whether the products are actually significantly worse than their pricier counterparts, thus saving you money at the outset but costing you in the long run. With Element Plus, there are a few tradeoffs the user has to make, but none of them signifcantly affect the user experience. The second tradeoff applies specifically to Google Home owners.

Active Cooling As you can see from the photo above the Arris hardware designers opted to add a fan to the DCX to keep it cool. The fan appears to vary in speed based on the temperature of the box. The fan is a nice addition considering the numerous problems with overheating some of the previous Time Warner cable boxes have experienced. This model uses WD GreenPower technology which is designed to provide power conservation and cool operating temperatures. The power button goes dark when the DVR is turned off so with the clock disabled the unit is almost completely black unless a show is being recorded.
Solved How to hook up a DVD player to a Time Warner cable box solution Time Warner’s adapter doesn’t get Christian channels. solution I bought my own .
January 2, Their pitch is that they’re converting certain channels from analog to digital. From searching around on the internet I haven’t been able to figure out what exactly I need to buy. Can anyone suggest a digital adapter that would work in this scenario? Also, I’ve never streamed video from my cable box before I do rent one.
This may be another option instead of getting an adapter. Just wondering if anyone has thoughts on video streaming? I truly despise Time Warner yet another money-sucking vampire squid which is why I’m going out of my way to figure out my other options Many thanks for your help! I’ve never heard of 3rd party digital boxes being used, only some digital receivers that convert analog airwave signals into digital, but this only gives you a few channels. Most cable companies require you to use a brand they support, as the box would have to be added into their system for it to see what channels you should have.
If you can have 3rd party boxes, I’m not surprised they wouldn’t help you, as it’s not something they would likely be able to “officially support”. The technician I spoke to Eddie was super awesome.

Reply Something about this setup bothers me. You are splitting your cable signal. One line goes to the cable modem and the other to the MoCA adapter. The network signal then goes into the MoCA adapter which sends your network packets back out through the splitter back to the same wire that’s coming in from the public feed.

Thanks for your many years of attention and everything you’ve done to make the site such a valuable resource. The first thing is that you have to do some configuring of both Java and Safari to get the applet to run at all. Once that was all done, I could log in from all my Macs, fire up the applet and establish a secure connection. On two of the Macs, as soon as I fired up the Citrix app, the Java vpn window would show ‘error’.
The console showed a Java crash. But on the third Mac, everything worked fine. I made sure that the Safari and Java preferences were set the same on each machine but still no joy. Then I remembered that I had done some Java development in the past and installed various jdks from Oracle so I ran: I keep everything up to date via the Java control panel currently 1.
Simply put, you can have multiple versions of Java in different places.

Further, installation is a major headache. These aren’t free, they’ll rent them to you. So, I picked up a self-install kit. Now, it isn’t rocket science, it just plugs in. For some reason Charter couldn’t seem to get it provisioned right. After he went through the process, it worked this time. I had tried to get them to go through the provisioning process again on the phone, but they insisted on an install. I suspect they like to make it as difficult as possible. I probably wasted 6 hours in total trying to get it to work.

With one Genie HD DVR, 1 your whole family can enjoy their favorite shows in any room, on virtually any device. You can also record up to 5 shows at once, and store up to hours of HD entertainment to watch later. Our all-included packages include monthly equipment fees for an HD DVR.
I currently have a mirrored version of the picture on my big screen also going to the smaller kitchen LCD, but ideally I want to be able to have two different high-def shows on simultaneously. Dish Network has been a real innovator in the DVR market for several years, as they were the first company to feature units with multi-room capabilities. This not only saves the consumer on monthly DVR fees, but also frees up valuable space in the equipment rack. One bedroom would get an infrared remote and you would need to point the remote right at the box to change channels.
The user in the other bedroom would simply have a single cable running into the TV from the DVR and would be able to access the second output of the DVR and control it with an RF radio frequency remote that passes through walls, sometimes from as far away as two stories. Unfortunately, the Vip is still is not the dream box I have been waiting for. Dish Network acquired these satellites and channels, but unless you have an MPEG-4 receiver and the proper subscription , you cannot access these channels.
It features HD output via HDMI or component video on zone one, but zone two still just has a standard-def output via composite video.

They are often designed to be mounted on a tabletop or a wall, and many come with external, often wireless, subwoofers for full-range response. Typically, they are self-powered, meaning no external amplifier and a simpler setup. All seek to give you better sound in an inconspicuous package, and some take on the lofty goal of replicating the kind of surround sound that you would get from multiple, larger speakers spread around your room.
First, unpack your soundbar, make sure you have all the included components, and read the manual. I know that last part is tricky for most folks, myself included.
For Motorola cable goes into the tuning adapter and then out of the tuning adapter into the Tivo. For Cisco, you use the splitter and connect the tuning adapter to the Tivo using the USB. Daisy chaining them does not seem to work.
If you haven’t received it by say mid morning, call them up Well life was not meant to be easy and Murphy’s Law reigns supreme. What happened was about 10am today a delivery man knocked on the front door here and asked me to sign for an express post parcel from Brightstar Logistics, NSW. The parcel is a modem but not the Gateway Max.
Yesterday morning, after reading this thread I rang Telstra Sales who put me through to Billing. The lady I spoke to at Billing took my order but did not know anything about the Gateway Max. After she had lodged the order she finally understood what I was trying to explain and quickly cancelled the order. She told me she would call back but that did not happen.
I received a confirmation email and checked the order to find it had been cancelled. After checking the number on this express post parcel I rang Sales again this morning and “James” has sent me a return satchel to send this wrong modem back. Also, I have now received a confirmation email and am looking forward to receiving a Gateway Max. The service would have been excellent if only they had sent a Gateway Max in the fist place.
Hope you are not exhausted trying to read all this. One must have a sense of humour.

They arrived one day after ordering helps we are only about 25 miles from where they are made , and after hooking up worked like a dream. I order the bundle so I can have one upstairs and downstairs. Thought I might have an issue with the one downstairs since there are some trees and an aluminum gazebo outside the room, no problems at all. Stations come in clear and with no interference.

Thanks Huston December 30, at Did you get post 19 to work? I think in order to get FIOS into your PC you need a QAM tuner your channels will be limited to the local channels and one or two others lilke the weather channel and plug the fiber directly into the PC tuner.
I have a windows 7 laptop, and a wintv tuner with usb adapter. I soon realized I need a QAM laptop tuner which is the wintv From reading this excellent post however. I now think I just need a laptop tuner with an RF, S video or HDMI input, that way I should be able to see the decoded signals from the settop box on my labtop and to record same. I don’t know about that. Here is the pricing guide for my local area: So you are saving money for DVRs. The only additional cost you have is the actual video package you subscribe too. I don’t believe CCs are obsolete as TiVo is still around and doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

How to watch basic cable over triple monitor display need help Broc Kelley Jul 23, , 6: I am in the process of figuring out how to use splitters and switches to keep my ability to game across 3 TVs and switch to my DVR box when I want to watch TV. I’ll be updating as I make progress. Sorry if this thread already exists. Any help would appreciated. I found that I can use this, which uses windows media player to pause, rewind, and record the signal I’m getting from my cable provider: I’m still not sure if my cable company will allow this or not, so I’m having them come over and discuss it with me tomorrow morning for free I’m also not aware if this will reduce my capabilities to watching basic cable or not, as my cable providers box is needed to get the extra content I have with my particular package.

April 27, 9: Can I connect them together to do anything cool? It seems to me that the antenna could be connected to the Tivo, and maybe pointed at the right spot in the sky for some free channels? Can the Tivo be used as the satellite tuner? You have to pay for or steal Direct TV service. You’ll need to pay for some sort of service cable or direct TV , either one will probably provide you with a DVR, making the TiVo useless.
The DirecTV satellite feed is encrypted and you need a subscribed account for the video to be decrypted in the receiver. Even if you did subscribe, TiVos don’t get the programming data to accurately control and record DirecTV receivers. You could sell them on ebay or take them apart for parts or take them to an e-waste recycler, but please don’t just put them in the trash.
And the frequencies and all that are wrong. The TiVo also won’t produce the power necessary to run the LNB, which is in the antenna part of the dish.
