How to beat the post-holiday blues Last updated at Holidaymakers returning from a sunshine break can now use the new mathematical formula to predict how badly they will be affected so they can decide what steps to take to struggle through. Boffins at Manchester Metropolitan University have constructed an equation to identify the key aspects which contribute to after-holiday misery. The sum looks at individuals’ pattern of holidaying, personality factors such as sociability and aspects of working life. Participants are asked seven questions and must rate their levels of happiness between 1 and 5 or 1 and 4. Using a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the lowest level of happiness, people must rate how happy they are in their jobs j , how well they get on with colleagues c , how easily they can relax r and how well they are travelled t. Then using a scale of 1 to 4, with 4 being the most negative, they have to judge whether they normally pick the right holidays h , how well they relate to others o and whether gaps between holidays too long b. One in three holiday-makers say the very thought of returning to work makes them feel depressed, so give yourself a day to recover from stressful travelling and get organised before you return.

History[ edit ] “Line dancing is most directly descended from the s disco era, when America saw a variety of new dances emerge”, including the Electric Slide , “in this same era, country-and-western line dancing emerged”, including the Walkin’ Wazi and the Cowboy Boogie. Whatever its source, popularity and growth of line dancing has been inextricably tied to country-and-western music. Country music began to appear on the pop charts, and line dancing began to cross boundaries of income, race, age, and gender Now line dancing is considered an art form of its own, with its own terminology and standardized steps.
Many believe that this style of dancing introduced the terms and steps used in country line dancing today. Many believe that American servicemen returning home from war influenced the spread of line dancing after being introduced to traditional European folk dances.
Dead dolphin tangled in net It’s been a spectacular year for sharks, dolphins and whales being spotted in Cornwall – and captured on videos and in pictures. It all began in May with a frenzy of activity about porbeagle sharks, following the injury of a fisherman. Max Berryman was way out in the Atlantic on a boat called Govenek of Ladram, out of Newlyn, about miles west of the Isles of Scilly.
There was blood everywhere. The shark had bitten straight through my oils, straight through my jeans and into my right leg.

Home This website explores the way in which blues brought the races together and improved their relationship during the late 19th century and throughout the 20th century. To the left, you can click on different options that will each take you to a new page describing the impact of minstrel shows and medicine shows, plantation musicians, integrated bands, the British Invasion, Chuck Berry, and other early rock stars on race relations.
Though I know there are many scholars who disagree that the blues positively affected race relations in this country, my thesis is an optimistic one. I am examining the beneficial effects blues had on race relations of which I have found evidence in many books and in the words of the blues musicians with whom I have spoken. In the late seventeenth century, the first groups of slaves were brought on a tremendous journey from their African homeland to America. To the white Americans of the time, the slaves were little more than strong arms and sturdy backs. They were meant to work and they were meant to generate money, but they were not meant to have a voice.
How to Get a Gay Guy to Like You
I loved their sound and bought just about everything but once the 80’s rolled around I became disenchanted. I’m a woman, and I can appreciate the attractive qualities of some of the band members, but the excessive ranting and ravings of some of their female fans really put me off. That’s all fine and good between the 12 to 17 age group, but these women were over 35 and very scary.
Get over it people.

In the early seventies, Verdi, a pampered, cloistered daughter of a southern preacher, heads to Philadelphia to enroll at the university. There she meets Johnson, a city boy. Their differences draw them together–he loves her gentility, she is seduced by his charisma. Their relationship is pure sweetness until Johnson teaches her the one thing that will change her life irrevocably–how to love heroin. Enter Rowe, the conservative black professor who rescues Verdi from her overwhelming addiction and then falls desperately in love with her, leaving his sophisticated wife for this confused southern girl.
Rowe and Verdi live a comfortable existence for twenty years, even though he attempts to strain Verdi’s relationship with her first cousin and dearest friend, Kitt. As the novel opens, Kitt tells Verdi that Johnson is back in town and Verdi feels her safe and protected world teeter off balance. Once they lay their eyes on each other, they realize that the years have not dulled their passion as they skid uncontrollably toward the desires of their youth.
